Tom Bernard holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Boston University, and an Engineer of Mines degree from Colorado School of Mines.
His work background includes heavy construction for Bechtel International (Canada), managing real estate in western Europe as an officer in the U.S. Army Communications Zone General Staff Headquarters, commercial high rise office, hotel, and shopping center construction management in Massachusetts, and development of industrial, office, and high technology buildings and large industrial and business parks in the San Francisco Bay and Seattle regions.
Over the past 32 years in the Seattle area, Tom developed industrial and business parks in Tukwila, in Mill Creek, and the I-90/Bellevue Business Park in his role as Vice President and General Manager for Cabot, Cabot & Forbes. This direct and indirect development includes over 225 acres of land and more than $350 million of developed land and buildings, now with more than 8,000 employees in those locations.
For the past eighteen years Tom has owned Bernard Development Company. Their present 300,000 square foot office/industrial and school/cultural center project is at the I-90/Preston Industrial Park, east of Seattle and Bellevue. with about 400 to 1,000 employees and guest each work day. A full service classic old world country inn hospitality development is planned along the Snoqualmie River in Fall City.
Active in civic, social, and business activities, Tom is a co-founder and a past President of the local chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, past Chairman of the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, and a board of directors member of the Alki Foundation, the Economic Development Council of Seattle, and King County, Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Tom lives in Seattle and has one son, boat building and attending college.
